The devices allow travellers to swiftly and conveniently view the most recent timetables.

Context 

Le Mans and Poitiers, two cities in France, have been actively addressing their mobility situations. Le Mans, famous for motorsports, has focused on sustainable mobility, expanding public transportation, cycling infrastructure, and pedestrian-friendly spaces. The recent upgrade of displays at the bus station showcases their commitment to providing efficient information to travellers.

Poitiers, known for its cultural heritage, has prioritised developing a multimodal transportation network, connecting urban, regional, and international services. The bus station, at the centre of a multimodal interchange, facilitates seamless transfers and improved connectivity.

Both cities strive to offer accessible, reliable, and sustainable transportation options for residents and visitors. This case study focuses on the approach and actions taken by Le Mans and Poitiers to improve their mobility infrastructure.

In action 

In Le Mans station, RGB LED devices (provided by the supplier Dysten) have taken the place of the old TFT LCD screens, implementing a solution offering several advancements.

  • The new displays feature a built-in light sensor, adapting the brightness to the lighting conditions in the station, ensuring optimal visibility for passengers.
  • The use of high-quality panels allows for reduced display size without compromising protection, eliminating the need for additional protective glass.
  • The displays offer flexibility in colour choice, graphics, and logos, ensuring high-quality image and visibility from different viewing angles.
  • The appropriate tilt of the displays enhances readability and user comfort.

Additionally, the devices now also serve travellers at the bus station in Poitiers. This roofed facility, located in a multimodal interchange, acts as a central point connecting urban, regional, and international transport services. Sixteen passenger information displays have been installed there, enhancing the convenience and accessibility of information for commuters.

Overall, both cities have taken steps to improve their transportation infrastructure, recognising the importance of efficient and user-friendly passenger information displays. These initiatives contribute to a better travel experience, smoother transfers, and enhanced connectivity within the cities' transport networks.

Results 

The actions taken by Le Mans and Poitiers to enhance their mobility infrastructure with improved passenger information displays have resulted in many positive outcomes.

The availability of accurate and easily accessible information has enhanced passenger experience, enabling better planning, smoother transfers, and improved connectivity across urban, regional, and international transportation networks.

Challenges, opportunities and transferability
