Paris facilitates travel for people with disabilities for Olympic and Paralympic Games 2024

Paris is set to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games in summer 2024. In preparation for the 350,000 disabled visitors expected, Ile-de-France Mobilités has created a plan to provide each individual with a disability with an accessible mobility solution. Expectations are that the region’s current accessible bus and light rail network is not able to meet the needs of all visitors to the Games as it is today.

Therefore, Amélie Oudéa-Castéra, Minister of Sports, announced an exceptional transport offer during the Games. On-demand public transport for people with reduced mobility will get simplified, cheaper (about EUR 2 per ticket) and increase in volume from 730,000 trips in 2019 to beyond a million in 2024.

A flexible shuttle service equipped for wheelchair users will connect the main Paris public transport stations with the sites of the Games. The fleet of Parisian taxis adapted to wheelchairs will increase from 200 to 1,000 vehicles in 2024 alongside a 40% discount on pricing. In addition, local public transport stations will get adapted for a more seamless transfer between leaving the train and transitioning to the next mode, like shuttles or taxis.

For those coming to the games by car, drop-off areas and parking for persons with reduced mobility will be located as close as possible to the Game’s sites.
