Outlook for connected and automated public transport vehicles reviewed

Co-operative, Connected and Automated Mobility (CCAM) has many potential opportunities for public transport, as it provides operators with increased flexibility to meet the needs of their users.

The Interreg North Sea Region project 'Planning for Autonomous Vehicles (PAV)', which supports cities in incorporating CCAM into their Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans, has published the European CCAM Outlook 2023 report. It provides a holistic overview of current and potential future developments in CCAM for public transport in Europe.

This comprehensive report examines the impact of technological, regulatory, societal, and market forces on CCAM for public transport, while highlighting the key drivers and barriers shaping the deployment of connected, cooperative, automated vehicles.

With valuable insights from leading experts in the field, including Dimitri Konstantas from the University of Geneva, Christian Bering Pedersen from Holo, and Carlo van de Weijer from the Technical University Eindhoven, this report offers a deep analysis of CCAM advancements and applications.

Other esteemed contributors include Delphine Grandsart from the European Passengers Federation, Tom Alkim from MAPtm, Henriette Cornet from UITP, and many more.

The report also evaluates business cases for distinct public transport use cases and identifies critical milestones that enhance their feasibility, profitability, and service quality.
