New electric car sharing facilities are implemented in Como, Italy

The Municipality of Como takes a step forward towards sustainable mobility, welcoming and sponsoring the European project "I-Share Life", co-funded under the LIFE Environment and Resource Efficiency Programme and coordinated by Ferrovie Nord Milano in partnership with E-Vai, which will bring to the city five new electric vehicles to be used for car-sharing purposes.

The new zero-emission vehicles were presented on 16 September in Piazza Cavour in Como and they have been located in the new stations of Como Camerlata and Como Borghi, in addition to those already available in Via Leopardi and Via Bertinelli.

Users will be able to rent a car and return it at over 100 E-Vai points located in several hubs and strategic locations throughout Lombardy region. E-Vai is the first regional electric car-sharing, integrated with the Lombard railway system and a practical and economical solution to move freely and easily between airports, stations and main urban areas. The initiative involves, in addition to Como, Bergamo, Bollate and Busto Arsizio (other Lombard cities in which E-Vai operates) and outside Italy, Osijek in Croatia.

In the city of Bari, I-sharE Life foresees the experimentation of a model of shared electric car that involves, in the first instance, the hoteliers of the area. The aim of the programme is to demonstrate that even in small and medium-sized cities (in biggest metropolitan areas the use of car sharing is already widespread), shared cars can be sustainable, both economically and technologically, especially when the vehicles made available to the public have low or even zero emissions.
