Lithuania invests EUR 3 Million to scrap old cars for green mobility choices

All around Europe, governments motivate people to rethink their mobility choices. To add some momentum, the Lithuanian government has launched a programme that rewards people to scrap their old, polluting cars and get compensated for the costs of more sustainable choices. People can receive support for annual public transport tickets (max. EUR 310 for Vilnius City ticket), electric mopeds or motorcycles (max. EUR 1,000), e-bikes (max. EUR 700) as well as e-scooters and conventional bicycles (max. EUR 400).

The programme was launched in May and since then has attracted a lot of public interest. Lithuania’s Environmental Projects Management Agency has now launched a new call to for addtional compensatory payments available until 1st February 2021.

The programme is part of the Ministry of Environment’s Climate Change Programme and tackles emissions of the transport sectors by removing heavy polluting elements.
