Launch of the European Capitals of Inclusion and Diversity Award

On 6 December, Commissioner Dalli launched the third edition of the European Capitals of Inclusion and Diversity Award. The award sets out to recognise, give visibility, and highlight best practices that can be a source of inspiration for other European cities in creating more diverse and inclusive environments for their citizens.

The Award will recognise three cities in two categories:

  • local authorities with fewer than 50,000 inhabitants
  • local authorities with more than 50,000 inhabitants

In 2024, a Specific Award for local authorities which enable safe towns, cities and regions for women in all their diversity, by addressing violence against women will also be handed out.

The Award is open to all local authorities, including towns, cities and regions of the EU Member States. Best practices covering all grounds of discrimination under article 19 of TFEU and their intersectionality are eligible.

The website dedicated to the EU Diversity initiatives in 2024 is available in all official EU languages. It will include a link to the application form for the Award competition, as well as visuals designed for the European Capitals of Inclusion and Diversity Award. You will also find registration links to attend webinars held by the organisers to help answer any questions for those interested in applying.

Applications close on 15 February 2024 12:00 CET. You can submit your application in any EU official language.

The Award ceremony will be held on 25 April 2024. To get inspired by the winners of the previous award in 2023, follow this link.
