Strategic partnership formed to enhance active mobility in Malta

Rota, a local bicycle advocacy group in Malta, has teamed up with Atlas Insurance to support the advancement of active mobility initiatives across Malta.

The two groups have entered into a three-year strategic partnership through the Atlas Insurance Community Involvement and Development Fund. Their collaboration marks a milestone in making cycling a viable form of transportation on the Mediterranean island.

The funding available will go towards:

  • A Cycling Ambassador: Introduction of a key individual responsible for raising awareness and promoting the benefits of cycling.
  • Local Engagement: Targeted involvement of schools and businesses to deliver information sessions and guidance.
  • Public Events: A series of events, conferences and innovative initiatives to raise public consciousness of cycling and enhance available mobility options.

Furthermore, this project also aims to develop and introduce cyclotourism opportunities that will bolster Malta's tourism sector, while showcasing the country's natural landscapes.

Mark Trapani, President of Rota, stated: "We are excited to embark on this collaborative journey with Atlas Insurance, with their dedicated support, we can elevate our efforts to ensure that active mobility remains a priority on the national agenda."

Catherine Calleja, Executive Director and chair of the Atlas Insurance Community Involvement Committee, added "This project is very much in line with our commitment to promote sustainability and good health, alternative forms of mobility help us align with several key Social Development Goals (SDGs) including sustainable cities and communities, climate action, good health and well-being, and affordable and clean energy. Atlas is thrilled to be working with Rota to contribute towards these goals.
