Salzburg introduces free public transport for tourists

The Province of Salzburg, Austria, will be introducing free regional public transport for tourists from the 1 May 2025 with the new ‘Guest Mobility Ticket’. This new initiative aims to reduce traffic congestion, promote sustainable tourism, and enhance public transport services for both visitors and residents.

The initiative will encourage tourists to use environmentally friendly public transport whilst saving them time and money, and reducing stress. The ‘Guest Mobility Ticket’ will provide tourists free access to the full public transport network within the Province of Salzburg including city transport, regional bus transport, S-Bahn, regional trains, long-distance trains, and Salzburg Verkehr shuttles. Tourists will be able to use the ‘Guest Mobility Ticket’ for the entire duration of their stay in Salzburg. The ticket will be provided to tourists digitally or in paper form at check-in or pre-check-in at their accommodation in the province of Salzburg. 

The scheme will be funded by a mobility fee which is applied to all individuals subject to the overnight accommodation tax. The current mobility fee is €0.50 per person, per night (for guests aged 15 and over). However, from 1^st May 2027, this fee will increase to €1.10 per person, per night.
