Monaco introduces ClicBus: A new era in on-demand transportation

On 25 March, Monaco introduced its latest on-demand transportation service, ClicBus Monaco. Representing a novel addition to Monaco's transportation landscape, ClicBus forms an integral component of the Mobility Plan initiated by the Monaco Government in February. The primary objective is to address a genuine necessity for enhancing public transportation services in specific districts previously underserved, primarily due to narrow streets or unsuitable layouts.

This innovative scheme has been meticulously designed to complement the existing public transport infrastructure. By extending its reach to three previously unconnected districts—Plati, Fleurs, and Annonciade—it effectively links four strategic locales within the Principality: Place d’Armes, Fontvieille shopping centre, Monte-Carlo Tourisme, and Place des Moulins.

Operated by electric vehicles with seating capacities of either eight or twenty (including minibuses specially equipped for Persons with Reduced Mobility (PRM)), ClicBus Monaco offers flexible scheduling to accommodate the diverse needs of its users. Operating hours are more expansive, ensuring accessibility seven days a week from 07:00-21:20. During nighttime hours, service is extended to all bus stops across the Principality from 21:20-01:30, and this is further extended to 02.30 on Fridays and Saturdays, with the possibility of seasonal timetable extensions. Raphaëlle De Rechniewski, project engineer at the Compagnie des Autobus de Monaco, in an interview with Monaco Info, explained: "On weekdays, three vehicles will be in operation, with slightly reduced availability on weekends, and additional services during nighttime hours." 

Accessing the service is streamlined through the utilisation of the mobile application or phone orders placed during operational hours at the nearest bus stop. "Whether it's pre-scheduled bookings or last-minute requests, users can conveniently avail themselves of the service, albeit with some expected waiting times," De Rechniewski further elaborated.

The fare structure for ClicBus Monaco mirrors that of the existing bus routes within the Principality. Tickets and season passes remain valid, with the option of onboard ticket purchases also.

In conjunction with the introduction of this pioneering service, CAM's route 7 was officially retired as of the evening of 23 March 2024.
