Modernisation of the tram fleet in Oradea

The Romanian Government has submitted the project "Modernization of the Tram Park in Oradea - Stage 1", through the 2014-2020 Regional Operational Programme. As reported in the Urban Mobility Plan of the Municipality of Oradea and within the Integrated Urban Development Strategy, it is one of the priority projects being identified.

The Municipality of Oradea has allocated EUR 29.36 million under investment priority 4.1, which targets sustainable urban mobility; the available funds to purchase new trams amount to approx. 19,09 million euro. "This project aims to acquire 10 new trams with an estimated value of 1.6 million. The public procurement procedure to purchase the trams has already started ", the City Hall reports.

The project aim to refurbish the Oradea Transport Local (OTL) SA's rolling stock and to increase the number of passengers transported, which is estimated to grow up to 24%, reducing the annual greenhouse gas emitted by transport means by 6.2%.

The acquisition of new trams was approved by the City Council last month, and the procedure is expected to be carried out in two stages. The first batch would be delivered within 15 months of signing the contract.

OTL has announced that it wishes to purchase 26 to 28m long, low floor trams with air conditioning and heating installations, ramps and spaces for people with disabilities and brake energy recovery systems.
