Gdynia supports residents to purchase e-bikes

The Polish City of Gdynia is renewing its programme that provides subsidies to residents to buy an e-bike. Last year’s programme, the first of its kind in Poland, was very popular amongst residents, so the city has decided to double the available funding to €42,500 for this year's programme. The subsidy covers up to half of the price of a new e-bike with a maximum ceiling of around €530. The city expects that about 80 people will receive support to buy a new e-bike this year.

A survey of those benefitting from last year’s e-bike subsidy programme revealed that 80% of applicants were triggered to think about buying an e-bike as a result of the offer of a subsidy. Almost all new e-bike owners said that their bikes were still in regular use. Indeed, more than 50% of those surveyed used their bike several times a week, even during autumn and winter.

Marek Łucyk, Deputy Mayor of Gdynia for Development stated: “Last year's grant turned out to be a great success. The residents were looking forward to the next pool and since December we have received a lot of calls asking when we will restart the project. We are glad that the residents want to change their transport habits and despite the fact that some time has passed since the application was submitted, they are still willing to take advantage of the subsidy.”
