An electric car for everyone in the neighbourhood: Genoa experiments with condominium car sharing

In Genoa's Il Biscione neighbourhood, the city's first condominium car sharing project has launched, allowing residents to share electric vehicles among themselves.

Spearheaded by Elettra Car Sharing and supported by the City of Genoa, this initiative aims to simplify mobility in busy city centres while promoting sustainability.

Initially, residents can access an electric car from the Elettra fleet, parked in a designated area on Via Loria, and enjoy subsidised rates. The municipality of Genoa hopes to extend the initiative to other populous areas of Genoa in the future.

This innovative pilot project will contribute to an increase in shared and sustainable mobility locally. By increasing vehicle efficiency through sharing, the project also aims to reduce the use and number of private vehicles on the road and their environmental impact. Finally, this project also plans to foster a sense of community among residents, reflecting a growing trend in neighbourhood-focused urban development and transportation planning across Europe.

Implemented by Elettra Car Sharing, the project aligns with broader efforts towards environmental sustainability. With over 10,000 subscribers and 2.8 million km driven since its start, Elettra has significantly reduced CO2 emissions.
