EIT Urban Mobility launches 6 calls for proposals

6 new calls for proposals were launched on 19 March 2021, under the European Institute of Innovation and Technology’s (EIT) Urban Mobility initiative. The new calls have been launched for various EIT Urban Mobility programmes, and seek to attract proposals in the following thematic areas:

• Regional Innovation Scheme (RIS)
• Innovation programme
• Creating Public Realm
• Citizen Engagement
• Business Creation
• Academy

The application deadline for each of the 6 calls for proposals is 18 May 2021. Application forms will be available in the PLAZA platform, which will be available as of 9 April 2021.

Each thematic area focuses on different key aspects of innovation within Urban Mobility. The following provides an overview of 2 calls - the Innovation programme and the Creating Public Realm - however further information on all 6 calls maybe found here.

Innovation Programme

The overall objective of the Innovation Programme – which has been allocated a budget of up to €7.7 million – is to build upon innovative ideas and put them into practice. EIT Urban Mobility aims to ensure safe urban transport, provide better data exploitation, increase modal shift, drive take-up of active transport, promote community self-help, and facilitate behavioural change. As such, the topics to be addressed within this programme include:

• Active Mobility
• Future Mobility 
• Sustainable City Logistics
• Mobility and Energy
• Continuation Proposal from BP2021

Creating Public Realm

As cities in Europe and worldwide are bouncing back stronger and more resilient after the COVID-19 pandemic, there is a growing momentum to rethink our cities and promote more sustainable and healthy urban living.

The goal of this call for projects is to generate social innovation by improving and transforming streets and public spaces. Projects should aim to achieve this through tactical urbanism and street experiments as part of a city-wide approach for liveable cities and building on adopted mobility strategies and plans in cities.

Projects will implement pilots for inclusive, safe and accessible public realm design in a city or town, and build momentum for long-term policy change in communities – especially in disconnected and less central neighbourhoods – to help improve liveability for all local residents.  The thematic area has been allocated up to €800,000.
