First held in 1974, UN World Environment Day is the United Nations annual celebration of the environment. The day is designed to encourage people to advocate for the environment, raising awareness of key issues, and promoting action to protect the environment.
The theme for 2020 is "Bio-Diversity". Individuals, organisations, charities, and NGOs can register an event with many activities in 2020 taking place digitally. Formally hosted by a different country every year, 2020 is hosted by Colombia, which is home to some of the world's richest and most varied ecosystems. Visit the official United Nations World Environment Day to find out more about ongoing events, inspirational action taking place across the globe, and messages from key advocates.
