The bicycle is hailed as a sustainable and beneficial mode of transportation, promoting health, environmental friendliness, and livable cities. However, bicycle theft poses a significant barrier to its widespread adoption, with many individuals ceasing to use bicycles after experiencing theft.
The Spanish city of Vitoria-Gasteiz, through its Environmental Studies Centre, has been selected by EIT Urban Mobility to participate in the "Rapid Applications for Transport (RAPTOR)" programme, aimed at developing innovative solutions for urban mobility challenges.
The Vitoria-Gasteiz RAPTOR Challenge focuses on combating bicycle theft through advanced traceability solutions integrated with the city's bicycle registration system and the VGBiziz network of secure bicycle parking facilities.
Startups and SMEs are invited to propose innovative solutions, with the selected initiative receiving up to €40,000 for piloting their idea in the city, supported by personalised advice from EIT Urban Mobility and municipal teams.
Vitoria-Gasteiz, known for its cycling culture, seeks low-cost, functional, and scalable technological solutions to enhance bicycle traceability, increase security, and optimise parking infrastructure. The desired solution should ideally reduce bicycle theft and encourage greater usage of the VGBiziz service, thereby promoting cycling as a primary mode of transportation.
Startups and SMEs with potential solutions are encouraged to participate in this opportunity.
If you have a solution related to bicycle theft, view the call and apply here. The deadline is 6 May 2024.
