Cross-border enforcement of UVARs (checking if a foreign vehicle complies with a given UVAR and issuing warnings/fines to a non-compliant foreign vehicles) is a major challenge for many cities.
UVARExchange is a project funded by the European Commission to improve enforcement of UVARs with respect to foreign vehicles across the European Union. The project focuses on two main aspects:
- Identifying mechanisms/solutions that can help relevant authorities access information on vehicles and vehicle owners/holders/drivers.
- Improving information to drivers in the vicinity of a UVAR, e.g. through harmonized road signs
In this context, the project is inviting you to take part in an information and experience collecting survey to share any current mechanisms/processes used by your city or country to enforce UVARs with respect to foreign vehicles. You are also invited to describe any challenges faced in this context as well as barriers that prevent you from enforcing UVARs.
Your inputs will allow the project to gain a deeper understanding of the topic and identify effective solutions that can be useful for cities across Europe. The project is a European Parliament Pilot Preparatory Action, meaning that legislation can be changed if necessary.
