Urban Transports Community publishes a Policy Brief on promoting soft mobility in the Mediterranean

In June 2021, the Urban Transport Committee (UTC) published its first policy brief on promoting soft mobility in the Mediterranean. The Committee, which promotes sustainable urban mobility planning in the Euro-Mediterranean region, is an initiative of Interreg MED co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund, which brings together seven local cooperation projects and some 120 organisations active in twelve Euro-Mediterranean coastal areas.

The report presents recommendations for promoting soft mobility and improving sustainable mobility in the region, based on the experience gained during the implementation of projects in Albania, Croatia, Greece, Italy, and Spain. The document also showcases lessons learnt in the form of case studies and illustrates policy measures to promote soft mobility. The report was prepared for an audience of public authorities and stakeholders ranging from the local to the EU level.

Some key recommendations from the report include the need to promote collaboration among municipalities and to take a bottom-up approach to designing measures, ensuring that local stakeholders are involved and thus fostering user and non-user acceptability.
