UITP has published a study on mobility post-COVID-19

UITP, together with consultancy Arthur D. Little, has published a study on the future development of mobility in the light of COVID 19.

The study called “The Future of Mobility Post-COVID-19 – Turning the crisis into an opportunity to accelerate towards more sustainable, resilient and human-centric urban mobility systems” is the result of a large engagement process involving 70 high-level staff. These people represent more than 30 organisations, including transport authorities, mass transit operators, mobility solution providers and other professional bodies.

The study is aimed at mobility policy makers and solution providers. It highlights the approaches that can be put in place to deal with the effects of COVID 19 on urban mobility. It describes more than 100 actions that have been taken, or which are being planned, to counteract the impacts of COVID 19. The study focuses on six 'game changers' that can be used to exploit the disruption caused by the crisis, each of which is an opportunity for large scale change in mobility systems.

Jérôme Pourbaix, Senior Director of Global Growth at UITP, says “Together, we must move beyond the management of short-term response and seize a historical and unique opportunity to start over and shape the future of our cities. We don’t want to go from lockdown back to gridlock, therefore this is our chance to work together and bring back better mobility to people in our cities.”
