SMALL project awarded for its tangible impact in promoting inclusive mobility solutions

At the Interreg SLAM 2025 award ceremony, held in the twin cities of Gorizia (Italy) and Nova Gorica (Slovenia), the SMALL project was honoured with the European Commission Special Award. This recognition was part of the Interreg Go! event, organized in partnership with Interreg Italy–Slovenia, EGTC GO!, the Friuli-Venezia Giulia Region, Slovenia’s Ministry for Cohesion and Regional Development, and INTERACT, which celebrated 35 years of European cross-border cooperation.

The award acknowledged the project’s innovative work in making shared mobility more inclusive, particularly for people with reduced mobility. SMALL has been active across several pilot cities, including Varberg, Saint-Quentin, Brest and Amsterdam, where it has co-developed transport solutions tailored to the needs of elderly individuals and those with physical impairments. These efforts included the deployment of adapted vehicles, the introduction of inclusive cycling programmes in schools, and the expansion of on-demand services using tricycles.

The project has also hosted a series of roundtables and webinars to share insights and best practices on inclusive mobility, bringing together local authorities, mobility providers and community representatives. These events have helped shape practical strategies for embedding accessibility into urban transport planning. The recognition at Interreg Go! highlights the importance of designing mobility systems that are not only sustainable but also equitable. SMALL’s approach – grounded in co-creation, local engagement and practical innovation – demonstrates how European cooperation can lead to meaningful improvements in everyday mobility for all.
