The San Sebastián City Council has approved the construction of two new urban lifts designed to improve accessibility in the neighbourhoods of Altza and El Antiguo.
The first lift, next to the Altza health centre, will cost €641,952 and take around six months to build. The second, linking Escolta Real Street with Paseo de Hériz in El Antiguo, involves an investment of €1,354,060 and an expected construction period of eight months.
Mayor Eneko Goia underlined that the projects are part of the city’s commitment to improving residents’ quality of life. These works add to San Sebastián’s broader mobility and accessibility programme, which in recent years has delivered public lifts and escalators in various locations in hilly areas. By providing safe, sustainable connections, the city aims to encourage walking, reduce car dependency and improve access to essential services.
