Re-launch of EAFO consumer survey on EV adoption

The European Alternative Fuels Observatory (EAFO) is conducting an annual consumer survey on the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) as part of its new information portal on zero-emission mobility alternatives.

The survey collects information on consumers’ behaviour, attitudes and intentions regarding the adoption of electric vehicles with the aim of highlighting shortcomings in the current market, identifying areas for investment, and developing new products and services for EV users’ needs.

The survey was first launched in 2022, with initial distribution amongst 10 Member States within the EU27. From 2023 onwards, citizens across all Member States, as well as neighbouring countries such as the UK, Norway and Switzerland, are encouraged to complete the survey. Responses are split by those who do and do not currently drive EVs, and collects information on topics such as: socio-demographic and mobility background; EV recharging behaviour and preferences; and attitudes and motivation towards EVs.

The survey will help to incorporate consumer patterns, attitudes and challenges to EV adoption into policy recommendations for national governments, as well as providing advice and consumer insight to other key stakeholders in the EV transition such as EV manufacturers, recharging infrastructure manufacturers, charge point operators (CPOs), eMobility service providers (EMSPs), and other supporting organisations and research institutions.

The survey responses are compiled into annual reports for each Member State and are accessible to anyone on the Consumer monitor and survey website.
