The Transport Innovation Gender Observatory (TInnGO), in collaboration with partners at the University of Copenhagen (UoC), have released new videos and a publication on gender smart mobility and green transport, technology, and diversity.
Currently, gender and diversity inequality exist in the transport sector, with women making up only 22% of transport workers in Europe and diverse groups experiencing challenges to accessing safe and sustainable transport. In this context, TInnGO was launched as a Horizon 2020 funded research project to understand the barriers facing diverse users and to develop a roadmap to gender- and diversity-sensitive smart mobility.
The five videos, released as part of the project “Green transport – technology and diversity” in the Coordination for Gender Research centre at the UoC, explore different topics within gender and diversity smart mobility and technology. The project seeks to build knowledge on how green initiatives in the transportation sector can contribute to a more sustainable and equitable transport system and wider society.
The videos introduce the key challenges and progress of sustainable transport and diversity, as well as covering individual case studies on:
- the impact of public transport on wheelchair users’ quality of life in Herning;
- rural to urban public transport links in Sonderborg;
- cycling planning in Copenhagen.
The videos, as well as more information about the project, can be found here: Green Transport - technology and diversity – University of Copenhagen (ku.dk)
In addition, the recently-released publication “Gender Smart Mobility - Concepts, Methods, and Practices”, authored by Hilda Rømer Christensen, Michala Hvidt Breengaard and Lena Levin, outlines the importance of planning for gender and diversity within smart, urban mobility.
The book discusses gender and diversity in the smart transport sector, seeking to address new challenges and possibilities with smart transport and to present solutions for future transport planning and mobility practices.
The publication is aimed at city planners, transport providers and policy makers, as well as providing an insight for the general public into gender and diversity considerations in urban transport.
The book is available to read as an open access version here: Gender Smart Mobility | Concepts, Methods, and Practices | Hilda Rømer (taylorfrancis.com)
