New European Bauhaus Call for Partnerships

The New European Bauhaus (NEB) is based on co-design, and invites creative minds to participate, curate conversations and generate ideas to shape an innovative policy framework. Ultimately, it supports a sustainable movement around new ways of thinking that create lasting communities and inclusive, ongoing dialogues.

The initiative will achieve this by:

• Bringing citizens, experts, businesses, and Institutions together and facilitating conversations about making tomorrow’s living spaces more affordable and accessible.
• Mobilising designers, architects, engineers, scientists, students, and creative minds across disciplines to reimagine sustainable living in Europe and beyond.
• Striving to improve the quality of our living experience. It will highlight the value of simplicity, functionality, and circularity of materials without compromising the need for comfort and attractiveness in our daily lives.
• Providing financial support to innovative ideas and products through ad-hoc calls for proposals and through coordinated programmes included in the Multi-Annual Financial Framework.

The NEB is gathering a growing multidisciplinary community of more than 200 official partners from the local to the international level. The application process – which is currently temporarily closed – will open again in September 2021 for organisations interested in contributing to the initiative.

To become a partner you shall commit to support the NEB initiatve, in particular in one or more of these lines of activity:

• To gather a diversity of professionals and disciplines in generating ideas, either within the organisation or by engaging with other actors through conversations regarding the NEB, and to summarise the outcomes to be openly shared through the NEB website;
• To identify inspirational projects, practices or concepts for the NEB initiative that can be openly shared through the website;
• To engage with citizens to discuss and collect expectations on the qualitative transformation of living spaces and associated life styles, to identify concrete challenges to be addressed in the frame of this initiative and to share the outcomes through the website;

NEB partners focus on a number of key areas related to cities, urbanism and architecture. However, in spite of the NEB’s pertinent intervention areas including lifestyle, living spaces and urban transformation,  there is no such partner directly involved in active mobility.

As such, this represents an opportunity for an organisation with a focus on supporting walking and cycling to become an NEB partner, in order to strengthen this particular aspect of the NEB. With active mobility providing a broad range of benefits, it will be important to have an organisation promoting walking and cycling as transport modes amongst the range of NEB partners.

Eligible partners include organisations and other entities that act as inspiring promoters of the debates and ideas that will be developed through the movement. They should have a significant outreach capacity at their level and act as trusted motivators.

To become a partner, organisations should outline their concrete contribution to the initiative, including stakeholder engagement and outreach activities. Information should also be provided on the nature, timing and expected output of the proposed activities.
