Madrid launches its new mobile application for shared mobility, Maas Madrid.

The Municipal Transport Company (EMT) of Madrid has launched a new mobile application for shared mobility, Maas Madrid. The application for mobile devices, MaaS Madrid, went “live” in late July and offers combined information of public transport with new complementary services of shared mobility. It brings all the mobility service providers in Madrid into a single tool, thus providing users one point of contact for different ways of moving around the city in a manner that respects the environment.

Information on transport options

Currently, the application for Android and iOs can provide users with information on all the mobility services at their disposal at a specific location, enabling them to find alternatives for private car use.

The App has information on public transport, including BiciMAD, as well as other mobility service providers like: Car2Go, eCooltra, Emov, Ioscoot , Muving, Obike, OFO and Zity.  It also facilitates access to applications and services of radio taxi.

Information from other services will gradually be incorporated, such as the "round trip" carsharing service Respiro and Blumove. EMT has invited other to companies that have already announced their arrival in the city in the coming months to join the project.

Additional functionalities

The App will be further developed in the coming months and a variety of new functionalities can be expected to be included before the launch of the completed version, by early 2019. Expected functionalities include the calculation and comparison of routes, travel planning, personalization of options or reservation and payment of travel. Users will be able to select and book journeys that fit best with their preferences, such as the fasted or cheapest journey, but also the healthiest or least polluting option.

The MaaS Madrid App is being developed as part measures of the Air Quality and Climate Change Plan of the Madrid City Council. It is expected that supporting the use shared and multimodal mobility will not only result in increased use of shared cars and bicycle systems, it would also result in greater use of EMTs public transport services. As such, it is expected that the App will help promote sustainable mobility.
