The European Commission is inviting citizens, travellers, and tourism operators to share their views on the upcoming EU sustainable tourism strategy. The strategy aims to make tourism more sustainable, competitive and innovative, while enhancing the experience for travellers and boosting the sector’s resilience.

It will include measures to:

  • Reduce overcrowding
  • Expand eco-friendly tourism options
  • Improve digital services
  • Facilitate smoother cross-border travel

Urban mobility is also central to this vision. More integrated and sustainable city transport systems can ease congestion, cut emissions, and improve accessibility for residents and visitors.

The strategy will support Member States in strengthening coordination, improving access to support measures, and addressing challenges such as climate change. It builds on previous EU initiatives, including the 2022 Transition Pathway for Tourism.

The public consultation is open until 12 September 2025. All citizens and stakeholders are encouraged to contribute their views on the future of tourism in the EU.

Citizens are invited to give their feedback on the Commission’s public consultation and can also contribute to the Commission’s call for evidence.
