Eltis Training, how to make your SUMP more inclusive for all

Mobility in urban, peri-urban and low-density areas is often a challenge for vulnerable and mobility challenges user groups such as elderly and young people, and people with reduced mobility, women, people on a low income, migrants and ethnic minorities.

The Covid-19 pandemic made the situation even worse because it severely affected the availability and affordability of (public transport) mobility options. Taking into consideration the needs, capabilities and attitudes of mobility challenged groups, public authorities and practitioners can build a more inclusive and fair mobility system for all.

In this context, and within the European Commission's Urban Mobility Days Digital Conference that will take place online from 29 September to 2 October, there will be a dedicated Eltis Training Session on “Planning for vulnerable to exclusion user groups: how to make your SUMP more inclusive for all”. 

The session will be led by the following team from TRT (Italy):

• Simone Bosetti, who is a senior expert in transport planning and also chair of the Coordinating Group of the EU SUMP Platform;
• Cosimo Chiffi, a senior expert in transport economics, freight transport and urban mobility; and
• Sofia Pechin, an expert in urban and transport planning.

The hands-on training session will provide insights, methodologies and tools focusing on three relevant aspects:

1. Knowledge and understanding of the needs and behaviour of vulnerable categories,
2. the measure definition,
3. and the planning process (users and stakeholders involvement).

The session will take place on 02 October 2020, from 10.00 to 12.00 am. To be able to participate in the training session, registration for the conference, and then the training session is required.
