Educational toolkits to help fight gender stereotypes in transport

The European Commission has released two multilingual educational toolkits to help fight gender stereotypes when discovering and choosing careers. The two toolkits cover the learning ages of primary and secondary school and they use the example of the transport sector to show a rapidly changing and expanding sector that will need to employ highly skilled workers, regardless of gender.

Currently, only 22 % of the people working in the transport sector are women. Many females do not consider a career path in transport because gender stereotypes and expectations lead them in a different professional direction. The toolkits aim to encourage learners to challenge gender stereotypes, explore the world of opportunities and develop transferable skills critical for the 21st century.

The toolkits are available in 24 languages, for use in all EU Member States. They involve activities to challenge stereotypes and promote discussion between students in the classroom.
