In the context of its ongoing work to support public authorities with the development of their Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs), in August 2019 the European Commission published a Topic Guide: 'UVAR and SUMPs: Regulating vehicle access to cities as part of integrated mobility policies'. The document was prepared to illustrate to urban transport professionals and planners how to relate Urban Vehicle Access Regulations (UVARs) to processes in SUMPs. UVARs can be broadly defined as ‘measures to regulate motor vehicular access to urban infrastructure’.
Subsequently, this guide has been translated into different EU languages. In August 2020, the ELTIS UVAR thematic guide was translated by the CIVINET Greece-Cyprus Network with the support of the University of Patras and the company Yourtranslator, within the framework of the CIVITAS SATELLITE project. The guide was published at a time when some of the pioneering Greek cities in sustainable mobility issues - such as Larissa - were attempting similar interventions in their centres. All Greek and Cypriot municipalities will be able to benefit from the translation of the document.
