In 2019, the City of Braga, Portugal learned from its first municipal Sustainability Report that 65% of emissions in the city came from motorised traffic. This was a key moment for the city to intensify its investments in sustainable mobility.
The local authorities teamed up with Portugal’s Business Council for Sustainable Development and developed and negotiated the Braga Business Mobility Pact. On 9 June 2022 the pact got signed by the city itself and 30 major companies who pledge their commitment to apply measures pushing the transition to sustainable and inclusive mobility.
The pact presents 28 actions out of which each signatory will apply a minimum of 2. Examples of these actions are:
- Intensifying the promotion of electric vehicles for personal use and in operations fleets
- Constructing additional charging stations in parking lots
- Applying efficient route management strategies to create optimal use of electric vehicles
- Providing and promoting information on multimodal transport and soft mobility on corporate websites and email communication with customers, suppliers and visitors
Being part of the Braga Business Mobility Pact supports companies to reduce their carbon footprint and to access information and knowledge on sustainable mobility.
The signature ceremony took part in the premises of Grupo Navarra, one of the signatories, with participation of the Mayor of Braga, Ricardo Rio, and the President of the Portuguese Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa. Grupo Navarra itself is renewing the company fleet to fully electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids.
