The EU, with support from the European Parliament, has launched the New European Bauhaus (NEB) Boost initiative to empower small municipalities by awarding 20 prizes. Applications are open, and municipalities in rural areas or those with populations below 20 000 are encouraged to apply.
The initiative addresses early-stage barriers for municipalities developing projects that reflect the NEB principles of inclusivity, sustainability, and beauty. It also aligns with core working principles, such as participatory processes, multi-level engagement, and a transdisciplinary approach.
Applicants must focus on the built environment, including the construction, renovation, or adaptation of buildings and public spaces. Projects should have achieved a sufficient level of maturity and demonstrate an emerging participatory approach.
An expert jury will select 20 winners from the top 30 applications. Each winner will receive a EUR 30 000 monetary prize and a communication package provided by the European Commission. This package includes support such as promotion on EU platforms, video production assistance, and help with raising the project’s profile.
The deadline to apply is 14 February 2025.
For more details on the application process, and to verify if your municipality is eligible, visit the NEB boost website.
