A workshop on the competition process for the 2027 European Green Capital and Green Leaf awards will take place online on 19 February 2025, from 10.00 to 12.00 (CET). Cities interested in applying to become European Green Capital or European Green Leaf in 2027, as well as other supporting organisations, are welcome to join the session.
The event will provide a comprehensive overview of the competition process, helping cities across Europe understand the steps needed to participate successfully. The workshop will feature insights and advice from an expert panel responsible for the city assessment, outlining key evaluation criteria, best practices, and practical tips to guide potential applicants.
Participants will also have the opportunity to learn directly from previous award winners, who will share their journeys, challenges, and achievements in becoming recognised as sustainable urban leaders.
Every year, one European city with more than 100 000 inhabitants is awarded the title of European Green Capital, while up to two smaller cities with at least 20 000 inhabitants receive the European Green Leaf award. Not only the winners but also all finalists of the European Green Capital and Green Leaf awards are eligible to join the network of European Green Capitals, contributing to and benefiting from collective knowledge.
