The International Transport Forum (ITF) 2025 Summit on Transport Resilience to Global Shocks will take place in Leipzig, Germany (DE), from 21 to 23 May 2025.
Under the ITF Presidency of Chile, the Summit will explore how governments can ensure the continuity of transport systems amidst current and future disruptions. The programme will address key shocks, such as natural disasters, pandemics, cyber-attacks, and geopolitical crises, which can lead to operational delays, economic losses, and reduced public confidence.
Discussions will be structured around three key perspectives on transport resilience:
- User: Ensuring system continuity, safety, and communication to minimise disruption impacts.
- Provider: Strategies to maintain operations despite challenges, such as infrastructure damage and workforce shortages.
- Governance and Financing: Policies, partnerships, and funding for sustainable resilience.
Specific sessions will focus on urban mobility, such as:
- Transport resilience strategies for developing and emerging economies: Exploring how emerging economies can bypass traditional development pathways by adopting new technologies to enhance resilience amidst rapid urbanisation, population growth, and environmental challenges.
- Integrating resilience into urban planning and transport network design: Focusing on principles and frameworks to identify and address vulnerabilities in urban transport systems. As well as exploring the role of stakeholder cooperation in designing resilient urban networks.
