COP30 - 2025 United Nations Climate Change Conference

The 30^th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) will take place in Belém, Brazil, from 10 November to 21 November 2025. This major international event will bring together world leaders, scientists, non-governmental organisations, and business representatives to advance efforts in addressing climate change. Key areas of focus include efforts needed to limit the global temperature increase to 1.5°C, the presentation of new national action plans (NDCs), and progress on the finance pledges made at COP29. 

COP30 will include a range of sessions targeting sustainable urban mobility, underscoring its role in reducing emissions and increasing climate resilience within cities. Selected urban transport-related sessions include: 

• Advancing Sustainable Urban Mobility: A showcase of results and solutions: Scheduled for 13 November from 11:00 – 12:00, this session will showcase key outcomes and innovative solutions driven by rail, public transport, and active transport COP30 Action Agenda initiatives worldwide, which have contributed to reducing transport emissions in cities and improving urban transport systems.
• UN Decade of Sustainable Transport 2026-2035 and Climate Action: This event will be take place at the SDG Pavillion in Belém on 13 November from 10:15-12:15 and is co-organised by UNDESA and SLOCAT.
• Public Transportation and Decarbonisation: Connecting efficiency, integration and climate impact: This session is organised by C.A.S.E (Bradesco, Itau, Itausa, Natura, Nestlé, Vale and Marcopolo) and will take place at the Balacool Bar in Belem from 15:00-16:30 on 13 November.
• Shifting gears on climate: Transport’s new ambition in the 2025 NDCS: This session will be at the Blue Zone, Korea Pavillion on 14 November from 12:30-13:30. The session will feature a moderated panel discussion on the NDC tracking work developed independently by SLOCAT and ITF and the NDC guidance to explore how effectively countries address transport in their latest NDCs and what the remaining challenges are in ensuring the representation of transport.
• Unlocking Finance for Low-Carbon Transport, UNFCCC side event: Co-organised by International Association of Public Transport (UITP), Asociación Civil Sustentar para elDesarrollo Sostenible, European Cyclists’ Federation (ECF), International Union of Railways (UIC) on 14 November this event will examine how climate finance under Article 6 can enable sustainable, cost-effective transport solutions to achieve climate targets, advance inclusive urban development and fulfil commitments under NDC 3.0 driving resilient and low-carbon mobility worldwide.
• Addressing Climate Change, Age, Gender and Social Inequities. Urban Planning & sustainable mobility: Also held in Belém on 17 November from 15:00-16:30 this discussion applies an intersectional lens to urban planning integrating climate resilience, equity, gender and health. By studying transport policies and case studies the session will propose universal-design mobility strategies for inclusive and sustainable cities.
